Human experimentation
Social issues assignment questionsQuestion 1- What social issue did you pick?
I picked 'Human Experimentation' as the theme for my assignment. Question 2- What are the problems that you think should be fixed? Human experimentation is studying the human body and nature as well as testing different substances on the body to see the body's reaction to it. I agree that knowing about our body is important but sometimes the scientists/researchers cross the line and I think that should be fixed. Some examples of this are- 1) In 1944, a Navy seaman was tested for protective clothing and he was put in contact with sulfur and mustard gas. Even though he wanted the experiment to stop the scientists did not stop it until the person got unconscious. (pcrm.org) 2) Once, 829 women were given vitamin drinks which was supposed yo improve their health. But it was lie, because the drinks contained radioactive iron that the scientists wanted to test. Due to this experiment, a lot of babies and the pregnant women died and suffered from diseases. It is important to me personally because just thinking about it haunts me. Also, I love science but I never thought that in the name of science scientists would do so cruel things. It is just like treating the humans like lab rats. And the moment I saw this topic on the list of issues I thought that this is interesting because I had never heard of it before. And after researching about it, it really made a mark in my mind. |
